Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Meredith College basketball team fell 68-40 to Greensboro College in Wednesday's USA South Conference contest. Chandler Hines led the Avenging Angels with 12 points, all from three-point range.
Thanks to a combined six points from reserves Kirstie King and Meghan Pleasants, Meredith remained close to the Pride 18-13 after the first 10 minutes of play.
When play resumed, Hines hit two long jumpers early in the second stanza to continue the pressure. After a two minute twenty second drought on both ends of the court, Amy Rhoney landed a three pointer and followed with a short jumper to pull the Angels to within two points. Greensboro would recover before the break to hold a six-point advantage heading into the intermission.
Meredith remained in the mix early in the third frame as Hines and Jessi Hayes netted back-to-back threes for the Angels, but the effort was short lived. Pleasants notched a three-point play late in the period, but Meredith trailed by nine with just one quarter remaining in regulation.
Excessive miscues interrupted any late game threat from the Angels, and nine points from Greensboro's Katie Lewis proved insurmountable down the stretch.
Rhoney finished with seven points and as many rebounds, and Hayes added six points, three boards. Pleasants and King combined for nine points, seven rebounds, and Maddie Gladwell hit a three point bucket midway through the fourth quarter to go along with three rebounds.
Greensboro's Monica Smalls came off the bench for a double-double on 12 points, 11 rebounds, with Marla Crawford and Lewis adding a dozen points apiece as well.
Meredith travels to Virginia Saturday to take on the Ferrum College Panthers in a 2 p.m. tipoff and follows at Mary Baldwin Sunday afternoon. Follow the live action HERE.
