Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- The visiting Guilford Quakers handled Meredith College basketball with ease Monday night for a 63-28 victory in the Avenging Angels' home opener. The Angels shot just 16.7 percent from the floor to hand over their fifth loss early this season.
Neither team opened the game with much offensive juice with just 19 total points combined through the first 10 minutes of play. Meredith doubled their percentage to just over 30 percent in the second frame but still scored just nine points, unable to take advantage of poor shooting from Guilford at 17.5 percent from the floor.
But the visitors first half woes disappeared after the intermission as Miracle Walters dropped in 15-of-17 game-high points in the last 20 minutes of regulation. Meredith's troubles continued with nine turnovers in the third quarter to propel Guilford to a 26-point lead.
Trinity Packer pulled down six rebounds in the final frame, and Madison Gladwell hit her only three pointer along with two-of-two from the free throw line to give the Angels a lift down the stretch.
Packer finished with a team high 10 boards, and Kirstie King recorded 9 to go along with six points. Chandler Hines finished with eight points amidst tough defensive pressure, and Kimberly Schuh tallied five rebounds with four points. Meghan Pleasants notched four blocks, five boards.
Guilford's Lauren Ramsey matched Packer for a game-high 10 rebounds on the night, adding six assists, and Jasmine McBride dished out five assists with seven rebounds and five points.
Meredith continues their home series this weekend with a USA South doubleheader versus Greensboro and Pfeiffer. The Angels face off with the Pride Saturday afternoon and host new league member Pfeiffer Sunday. Both games tip off at 2 p.m. with live action available HERE.
