Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College softball team opened the USA South schedule with a pair of wins over the visiting Greensboro Pride. Taylor Jackson pitched two complete games with a 2-1 game one victory, followed by a 3-1 win in the nightcap.

Game 1
The Avenging Angels finished off GC in a rather quiet game one beginning with a triple from Erica Occena driven deep to right center. Brittany Bucklin sacrificed her at-bat with a fly-out to center scoring Occena for a 1-0 Meredith lead after one complete inning.

Maria Annunziata recorded her second homer of the season to lead off in the bottom of the second frame giving the Angels a two-run advantage through the next two frames.

With a pair of hits and aggressive base running, Greensboro managed to score a run in the top of the fifth. Neither team would score again leaving the Angels as the victor in their first league game of the season.

Taylor Jackson faced 28 batters in her third complete game pitched and third win on the season. She allowed one earned run on four hits with three base-on-balls and three strikeouts. Greensboro's Hayley Tickle recorded her second loss on the season for the Pride.

Game 2
After a scoreless first inning in game two, the Pride managed to put two on base with a double and a base-on-balls. Both runners advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice with the lead runner advancing home on a single in the next at-bat.

The Avenging Angels responded on two early outs in the bottom of the frame. Laura Zievis found her way to second base on a single up the middle and a stolen base. Julia Allsbrook followed with an RBI-single to left sending Zievis home and advanced to second on the throw. Charley Cox walked, and Allsbrook scored on an RBI-single from Eran Artigues to edge Meredith into a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Occena led off with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Annunziata doubled to center field to send Occena home for Meredith's third and final run for the win.

Jackson pitched another complete game holding the Pride to just one run on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Greensboro's Maddy Wetherholt faced all 28 Angel batters, allowing three earned runs on five hits with three K's.

The Avenging Angels travel to Florida tomorrow for a six-game road series over the college's spring break. Meredith opens Tuesday with Pennsylvania's Thiel Tomcats at 11:00 a.m. Live stats will be offered for several games during the week. Link HERE for updates.
