Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College basketball Angels put together their best 40 minute performance of the season behind a career high 27 points from Chandler Hines to capture a 76-64 win over the visiting Methodist Monarchs. Hines had 18 at the half and led the Avenging Angels to 91.7 percent shooting in the third quarter to pull away from MU by 15 for their largest lead of the game.
Schuh scored a layup out of the opening jump ball touch from Pleasants, and Meredith never trailed the rest of the way. Meredith finished off the game shooting a season-best 52.5 percent from the field and matched their season-high point total reached last weekend at Mary Baldwin.
Led by Madison Gladwell at the point, the Avenging Angels dished out a season-high 17 assists and held their turnovers to just 14 on the day. Defensively, the Angels led with 26 rebounds and nine steals, and Meghan Pleasants and Kimberly Schuh recorded a block apiece.
Schuh, Pleasants, and Brittany Preston each notched six rebounds apiece to lead Meredith, and Kirstie King tallied five inside. Schuh posted 15 points on 7-of-11 from the floor, and Pleasants found th hoop for 10 points before disqualifying with five fouls in a tough defensive effort inside versus the Monarchs.
Monarch Kodi Centry led the visitors with 18 points, and Kayla Goldsmith grabbed a game-high eight rebounds with 12 points in the loss.
Meredith remains at home for their next two games next weekend. Mary Baldwin travels to Raleigh Saturday for a 2 p.m. USA South contest, and the Averett Cougars arrive Sunday afternoon to close out the home series.
