Defensive Blunder Leaves Softball Angels with a Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College recorded a split with the USA South's Methodist Monarchs on a 3-2 loss in game one followed by an 8-0, five-inning victory. Maria Annunziata led with four hits on the day, and Myah Morse earned her 10th career win in the circle.

Game 1
The lead off batter reached first on an unforced Meredith error setting the tone for the game one Angels defense. After advancing to first on a single up the middle, Haley Ervin reached home on a wild pitch to put the Avenging Angels on the board in the first.

Annunziata led off in the second with her first single on the day, and Rachel Peel drove her home with a one-out RBI-single to center for a 2-0 Angels lead.

Meredith left four runners stranded during the next three innings, and the defense unraveled in the top of the sixth. A pair of infield missteps posted two runners on base, and a third error scored the first of three. The Monarchs drove in two more unearned runs on a pair of singles to edge in front for good. MU's Jordyn Propst and her defense managed Meredith's next six batters to hold on for their second win on the season.

Jackson earned the loss for the Angels, earning no runs on two hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

Game 2
The offense in game two was slow to start, but Meredith put two on the board in the fourth with a two-RBI single from Julia Allsbrook.

Kelsey Mabe led off in the fifth with a walk, and Erica Occena turned a sacrifice into a single with quick feet to first. Both runners scored a Sarah Watson single up the middle. The short ball continued to work for the Avenging Angels as Annunziata and Ervin drove in one run apiece to extend Meredith's lead to six. The Monarchs helped the next run with a bobbled play at short stop, and Occena drove in the game winner with a single down the right field line for the quick victory.

Meredith travels to Kissimmee, Florida, for a four-game series in the Sun Kissed games during spring break. All four games will be streamed live made available to fans for a nominal fee. LINK
