RALEIGH, N.C. -- Madison Hamilton led the Meredith College softball team in Saturday's split versus USA South member Piedmont College. MCSB claimed game one 5-4 before falling to the Lions 10-2 in the nightcap.

Hamilton recorded five hits in six at-bats with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI on the day. Cecilia Coleman notched two hits in game one, including a home run over the left field fence, and Bryce Smith recorded an RBI-double in game two, loading the bases with a bunt-single in the third. Charley Cox posted a pair of sacrifice bunts with a single to left in game one and scored Hamilton in game two.

Game 1
Piedmont opened the day with three extra-base hits in the first inning to score two before the Angels' defense settled down in the second. The Avenging Angels matched PC in the bottom of the second a pair of runs on three hits, but a Lion triple in the third led to another Piedmont run. After two frames with little offensive movement, Meredith scored one run in each of the last three innings to finish off Piedmont for the win.

Sarah Gundlach pitched her fifth complete game for the win, allowing eight hits with three earned runs, a pair of walks, striking out one. Piedmont's Melissa Eckman recorded the loss.

Game 2
Gundlach lost a face off with Piedmont's first six batters before Head Coach Kim Scavone called up Payton Aldridge in relief. The Lions scored five before Aldridge struck out TK Sauls to get out of the inning. In the bottom of the frame Kelsey Mabe led off with a single and moved to third on a Hamilton double. Cox scored Mabe, and Smith's at-bat advanced Hamilton home for a 5-2 Piedmont advantage.

Meredith's next opportunity to score came in the third when Smith, Cox, and Hamilton loaded the bases with no outs on the scoreboard, but Piedmont managed to slip out of the inning unharmed, moving on with the eventual victory.

The Avenging Angels open the USA South campaign next weekend at N.C. Wesleyan and Greensboro.
