Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- In a 56-47 victory over visiting Averett University, Meredith College senior Kimberly Schuh notched a double-double with 27 points, 15 rebounds, both season-highs, to lead the Avenging Angels.
Even with the Cougars at just nine points after the first 10 minutes of play, Meredith caught their stride in the second quarter and managed to pull away by seven. AU pulled to within one late in the third, but a timeout from Head Coach LaQuanda Quick settled the Angels. Rookie Piper Carriere drained a three-pointer after the break to reset MCBB, pushing the lead back to eight by the end of the period. The Avenging Angels remained in control the rest of the game for their fourth consecutive win.
Meredith bested AU with 46.9 percent from the floor but shot an unusually low 50 percent from the stripe. The Avenging Angels continue to dominate their opponents on the boards with 41 to just 27 from Averett, which helped offset 24 miscues on the game.
Carriere matched her season-high with 11 points, including 2-2 from beyond the arc, adding four assists, four rebounds. Kate Perko scored six with eight rebounds, four assists, and Mikayla Farris added six with three boards. Caroline Coleman hit two from the field to go along with three steals, and De'ja Morgan scored one in the second quarter, adding two rebounds. Mikayla Thompson dished out a pair of assists during her 10 minutes of play in the first half.
The Avenging Angels are slated to be off next weekend and return to action February 5 versus William Peace.
