Angels Basketball Falls to WPU, 75-68

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The host William Peace Pacers handed the Meredith College women's basketball Angels their first loss this season with a 75-68 finish. Kate Perko led the game with 26 points on 76.9 percent shooting from the floor and 6-6 from the stripe.

Meredith trailed by nine points at the end of the first quarter, but 10 points from Perko helped MCBB shrink the gap to just one point heading into the half. The Pacers extended their lead back to 10 with help from nine free throws in the third quarter and pushed that lead to 15 midway through the fourth.

Kimberly Schuh gathered an offensive rebound on the next play and scored a pair of free throws on a resulting foul. Mikayla Thompson dished out a pair of assists to Perko, and De'ja Morgan notched a three-point play to cut the Pacer lead to seven with 3:16 remaining in regulation. The Angels cut the lead to five on another Morgan layup at 2:33 but WPU responded. The Pacers netted three free throws in the final seconds of play to finish with the win.

Morgan tallied a career-high 12 points, five assists, and Schuh finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and a pair of assists. Caroline Coleman scored nine points with six boards and three steals, and Mikayla Farris and Piper Carriere scored four points apiece, and Thompson tallied four assists with two rebounds, two points.

Four Pacers posted double-digit scoring with Sydney Austin and Cierra Baker leading with 13 apiece. And Tatianna Occena led all with six steals, adding eight points.
