Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, N.C. -- In Meredith College's first USA South softball play day, the Avenging Angels split a two-game series with host Greensboro College, 1-10, 2-1. The Pride travels to Raleigh tomorrow for a non-conference doubleheader on the Angels' field.
Game 1
Greensboro took an early 5-0 lead in the second stanza and never looked back. Anna Goldman scored Madison Hamilton on a double in the third to put MCSB on the scoreboard, but three hits in the fourth, including an extra base swing from Fallon Wimberly, failed to move the needle.
The Pride would score five more through the fourth to end the game early.
Danielle Hunt took the loss for Meredith, allowing five unearned runs on five hits with two walks. Wimberly allowed the same with two-of-five runs earned and three walks. Cheyanne Cox earned the win for GC.
Game 2
The Pride kept the bats moving in game two but walked in the first run of the game for a first-inning lead.
A scoreless second brought up Sarah Manis for a lead-off walk in the top of three. Alyssa Drake moved Manis to second, and Goldman sacrificed to move the runners again. Rachel Johnson doubled to left scoring both to give the Angels an advantage they would not relinquish.
The Avenging Angels registered four more hits through the remainder of the game but would move no runner past second base.
Sarah Gundlach led the defensive efforts, allowing just one run in four hits with four walks, striking out four. Kassie Simmons earned both of Meredith's runs and collected the loss for Greensboro.
