Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College softball Angels downed the visiting Methodist Monarchs 3-2 and 3-0 in Saturday's non-conference action. Sarah Gundlach pitched a four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in game two, and Madison Hamilton hit a pair of RBI-doubles on the day.
Game 1
Susanne Taylor registered an RBI-double in the second inning to open the scoring on the day. Hamilton's RBI-double in the third, followed by Anna Goldman's RBI-single gave the Angels as many runs as they would need to hold on for the win.
Other notables include a double and a single from Rachel Johnson in the second and third, respectively, and another hit from Taylor in the sixth.
Hannah Weigle started in the pitcher's circle and earned her first win on the season. She earned both MU runs on three hits with one walk and one strikeout. Brie Caldwell entered in relief, allowing two walks in 12 batters.
Game 2
Hamilton and Johnson kept the bats moving in game two, starting off with a single through the left side for Hamilton. Hamilton stole second to be in place for an RBI-single up the middle for Johnson.
Sarah Manis singled on a bunt, and Fallon Wimberly picked up another hit in the fifth. But the Angels scored their next runs in the bottom of the sixth frame to secure the win. Alyssa Drake led off with a single, and Manis advanced on an infield error. Hamilton scored both with her second double on the day. Gundlach recorded her eighth strikeout and the infield handled the other two batters to close out the win in favor of Meredith.
Meredith travels for their next two play days beginning with William Peace Wednesday afternoon, followed by Averett next weekend. Follow the live action HERE.
