Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith basketball program opened its 2022-23 campaign with a home conference loss to North Carolina Wesleyan College 64-46 inside Weatherspoon Gymnasium Tuesday night.
N.C. Wesleyan (3-0, 1-0 USA South) was picked to finish third in the conference while Meredith (0-1, 0-1 USA South) was picked in the sixth spot pre-season.
The Angels were led by senior Katee Perko who tallied a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Junior De'ja Morgan was the only other Meredith player in double figures with 14.
Meredith forced 14 turnovers but gave up 19 as a team. The Battling Bishops shot 21 free throws making 16 of those while the Angels only went to the line 14 times making six.
The Angels are back in Weatherspoon Gymnasium Friday at 6 p.m. when they host Pfeiffer for another USA South matchup.
