Avenging Angels fall short against #2 Marlins in Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Avenging Angels hosted their opening games as #2 Virginia Wesleyan came to Raleigh on Saturday. In Game 1 of the doubleheader, scoring came in bunches and was a back and forth slugfest, but ultimately the Marlins came out on top by a final score of 12-9. The Avenging Angels couldn't get their bats going in Game 2 and fell by a score of 9-1 in 5 innings.

In Game 1, Meredith was led by Graduate Center Fielder Alyssa Drake as she went an impressive 3-4 and drove in 3 runs in an outstanding effort. The bats were certainly working in this one as 6 of the starting 9 players had RBIs and 7 of 9 recorded at least 1 hit in the ballgame. It was an exciting back and forth game to be a part of and set the tone for an exciting season for the Avenging Angels.

In Game 2, Virginia Wesleyan was led by their pitcher, Julia Piotrowski who pitched all 5 innings and went 2-3 at the plate to get their victory. Meredith was led by Sophomore Outfielder Sarah Manis as she drove in the lone run for the Avenging Angels, going 1-2 in the contest.

Meredith is back in action on Sunday as they host Guilford college in another doubleheader. First pitches will start at 1pm and 3pm.
