Box Score 2 Raleigh, NC - After a long stretch on the road that resulted in a 13-3 record to start the season, the Avenging Angels returned home on Tuesday to face the Battling Bishops of NC Wesleyan. Miscues on defense and a timely hit by NC Wesleyan in the 6th inning resulted in the first conference loss of the season for Meredith in game one. In game two, the outstanding offense that Meredith has seen lately, entering today's games with a team batting average of .363, could not get going. They collected just 5 hits in the contest, losing game two by a score of 3-2.
Game 1 - NC Wesleyan 4, Meredith 2
After leaving the bases loaded in the second inning, the Avengings Angels started the scoring in the third. Alyssa Drake singled to left field, scoring Anna Goldman, who reached on a triple with two outs. NC Wesleyan would tie in the fifth inning in similar fashion as Alexis Whitfield led off with a triple and scored on the next at bat after an infield miscue by the Angels.
In the sixth, the Battling Bishops loaded the bases and Logan Winstead hit a triple to left field to clear the bases and put them up 4-2.
The Angels threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Drake and Goldman reached on singles but would strand both runners bringing their total to nine stranded in the contest.
Sarah Gundlach earned her first loss of the season in the circle for the Angels, throwing a complete game allowing 9 hits and 3 earned runs, while striking out 11.
Game 2 - NC Wesleyan 3, Meredith 2
The Avenging Angels scored first again in game two, as Alyssa Drake's double to left field scored Sarah Manis. NC Wesleyan scored all three of their runs in the third inning on two hits, but freshman Alexa Daniel would settle in only allowing one more hit in the game, while striking out 8. Meredith pushed one more run across in the fifth inning on Sarah Manis's sac fly to left field that scored Madison Hamilton.
The Angels return to conference action on Saturday as they host Southern Virginia. Game one will begin at 1:00 pm.
