Box Score 2 Staunton, VA - The Meredith College softball team split with the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin University on Saturday in a USA Conference doubleheader.
Game 1 - Meredith - 0, Mary Baldwin - 2
For just the third time this season, the Avening Angels failed to score any runs in game one. The Meredith bats were silent until Freshman Jessie Woller reached on a single to left field in the top of the 7th inning. Sarah Gundlach threw a complete game allowing just four hits and one earned run, while striking out eight.
Game 2 - Meredith 12, Mary Balwdin -3
Meredith saved all of their offense for game two, compiling 17 hits to score 12 runs. Kendall Johnson led the way for the Angels, going two for four with a sac bunt, two doubles and four RBI. Anna Goldman plated two runs with a blast to left field in the top of the 6th inning, her third homerun on the season. Jessie Woller's offensive production continued in game two as she went four for five with an RBI and three runs scored. Fallon Wimberly also had a great day at the plate with three hits and three RBI in game two. Freshmen Alexa Daniel got the complete game win in the circle for Meredith allowing five hits while striking out seven.
Meredith will return to action after the Easter Holiday as they take on the Cougars of Averett University on Wednesday. Game one is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
