Box Score Rocky Mount, N.C. - Meredith basketball traveled to North Carolina Wesleyan College Tuesday night and fell short 74-66.
Meredith (2-12, 2-5 USA South) trailed by six at the end of the first quarter but cut that lead to four before the half.
N.C. Wesleyan (9-4, 5-1 USA South) shot 19 more free throws then the Angels but only managed to convert seven more times at the line. The Battling Bishops shot 15-27 from the free throw line while Meredith went a perfect 8-8.
The Avenging Angels also shot 60 percent from three-point range. N.C. Wesleyan extended its lead to eight points before heading into the final quarter of action and that proved to be the difference.
Junior Piper Carriere tallied a career-high with 22 points to lead all scorers. Senior Mikayla Thompson added 14 points while fellow senior and reigning USA South Player of the Week Kate Perko earned another double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Angels are back in action Friday when they make the short trip to William Peace with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
