Angels late push falls short against Southern Virginia

Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith basketball program saw its three game win streak come to an end in a 59-55 loss Saturday afternoon to Southern Virginia University inside Weatherspoon Gymnasium. 

Both teams struggled to get going early in the game and found theirselves all tied up at 13 to end the first quarter of action. 

Southern Virginia (8-9, 7-3 USA South) essentially won the game in the second quarter outscoring Meredith (5-13, 5-6 USA South) 15-8. The Knights headed into halftime with a seven-point lead. 

An even third quarter still showed a seven-point deficet for the Angels headed into the fourth quarter. Southern Virginia extended its lead all the way to 12 before Meredith cut the lead to four with three minutes to go.

The late push by the Angels came up short as the Knights closed them out at the line. Senior Kate Perko led the charge with a 24-point double double adding 13 rebounds. Junior Piper Carriere added 15 points as well.

Meredith is back in action Jan. 25th when they host cross town rival William Peace at 6 p.m.
