Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Meredith softball program traveled to Guilford College where they dropped both games at Haworth Field on Sunday afternoon. The Quakers took game one 10-4 and then edged out the Angels 3-2 in extra innings in game two of the afternoon.
In game one, Meredith tallied 10 hits but left seven runners on base compared to Guilford's four runners left on base. Guilford scored all of their 10 runs in the first four innings of the game. Meredith crossed three in the 5th but the comeback was too late.
Junior Sarah Manis had a game-high three hits for the Angels while also scoring two runs. Fellow junior Mia Staggs also added two hits while graduate student Alyssa Drake earned two RBIs on two hits.
Runs came at a premium in game two as freshman Lillie Davis put on a stellar performance in the circle earning six strikeouts and only giving up two earned runs.
Meredith struck first in the top of the first inning when Manis kept her day rolling adding a hit, a run, and a rbi. Senior Fallon Wimberly earned the other rbi for the Angles in her two-hit game.
Sophomore Rheanne Burden also had a two-hit game for the Angels while junior Laura Tobin added a hit and a walk in game two.
Guilford cut the Meredith lead in half in the bottom of the first and tied it in the third. Both teams had 10 left on base which included multiple runners for Meredith in the top of the seventh, eighth, and ninth. The Quakers escaped game two winning on an error in the bottom of the ninth.
Meredith takes the field again next Saturday, March 4th, when they battle Messiah at 10 a.m. followed by Bethany (W.V.) at 4 p.m. at Walnut Creek Park in the GS Triangle Classic.
