Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith softball program picked up two more conference wins in a series sweep of Salem College Friday afternoon. The Angels took game one 4-1 followed by a 4-0 victory.
Meredith (12-10, 4-0 USA South) saw their first home run of the season fly over the fence from the graduate student Alyssa Drake who tallied three total hits and two RBIs.
Salem (3-11, 1-3 USA South) scored the first run of the game in the top of the first which proved to be their only run of the entire day.
Freshman Lillie Davis tallied a career-high nine strikeouts in the circle while only giving up two hits. Junior Sarah Manis and freshman Emilee Lewis also had a two-hit game for the Angels.
In game two of the afternoon, the pitching and defense were stellar once again for Meredith.
Senior Hannah Weigle tallied a complete game shutout only giving up one hit and striking out five.
The Meredith offense scored two in the second inning and two more in the fifth for good measure.
Manis continued her hot day with two more hits while sophomores Jessie Woller, Gracie Massengale, and Rheanne Burden all added two hits and an RBI.
The Angels are back in action Sunday when they host cross-town rival William Peace with game one of the doubleheader starting at noon.
