Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith softball program picked up two more wins on the weekend on Day Two of the Grand Slam Triangle Softball Classic. The Angels had a come-from-behind walk-off win over Denison 8-7 to start the day followed by a 12-0 five-inning dismantle of Averett.
In game one, Meredith (4-4) fell down 4-0 to Denison (4-2) in the first two innings of action. The Angels responded with four runs in the third after junior Sarah Manis tripled to start the rally for Meredith. Manis finished with two hits and an RBI.
Denison retook the lead in the fourth but the Angels tied it right back up in the fifth in a thrilling game one of the day. Once again in the seventh inning, Meredith trailed 7-6. Junior Mia Staggs led off with a single and eventually came around to score and tie the game on a throwing error for the Angels.
With one out, junior Laura Tobin hit a SAC fly to right field scoring grad student Alyssa Drake and walking it off for Meredith. Drake finished the game with three hits and an RBI. Freshman Lillie Davis picked up the win striking out five
In game two against Averett (3-5), Davis picked up win number two on the day shutting out the Cougars while only giving up one hit and striking out three. The Angels' offense piled up 12 total hits.
Manis continued her stellar day going four for four at the plate with two RBIs while drake also added a hit and an RBI. Sophomore Rheanne Burden tallied a three-hit game with an RBI while also playing great defense at third base.
Meredith is back in action when they travel to LaGrange, on March 11th, for a doubleheader starting at noon.
