Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith softball program hosted Pfeiffer University for a USA South clash and dropped both games Tuesday afternoon at the Meredith Softball Field. The Falcons took game one 5-4 and then game two 4-0.
In game one, Meredith (15-13, 7-3 USA South) held Pfeiffer (23-9, 11-1 USA South) scoreless through four innings. The Angels gained the lead in the second inning after senior Fallon Wimberly hit a two-run home run.
Meredith added two more runs in the next inning going up 4-0. Graduate student Alyssa Drake tallied two hits while junior Laura Tobin had two hits and an RBI. Freshman Avery Puryear also added two hits.
The Falcons came alive in the top of the seventh inning scoring four runs to take the lead and game one of the doubleheader.
Both teams left seven on base. Freshman Lillie Davis tallied five strikeouts in the circle.
Both offenses struggled to string hits together in game two. The Falcons left 10 on base while the Angels left five.
Pfeiffer scored one run in the first, second, fourth, and sixth. Senior Hannah Weigle struck out five while Wimberley and Puryear added a hit each. Juniors Mia Staggs and Sarah Manis also added a hit.
Meredith is back in action at Southern Virginia this Saturday, the 15th, with game one of the USA South doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
