Box Score 2 BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Meredith softball program traveled to Southern Virginia University and swept the Knights in conference action at Harvey-Dryden Field. The Angels won game one 3-2 and took game two 5-3.
Meredith (17-13, 9-3 USA South) saw junior Mia Staggs break the single-season stolen base record for the Avenging Angels. Staggs stole two in game one and three in game two for 25 on the year.
The Angels struck first in game one in the third and held Southern Virginia (17-15, 5-9 USA South) until the 6th inning. Meredith scored two in the top of the inning, which proved the perfect insurance for the game-one win.
Staggs added two hits while graduate student Alyssa Drake earned the lone RBI for the Angels. Freshman Lillie Davis tallied eight strikeouts in her complete-game victory.
Both Staggs and Drake led the attack in game two with two hits. Drake had two RBIs along with junior Sarah Manis. The two RBIs from Manis came from a two-run home run to lift the Angels to victory. Senior Hannah Weigle earned the win in the circle while Davis picked up the save.
Meredith is right back in action tomorrow when they travel to Sweet Briar for a non-conference double-header starting at noon.
