Box Score 2 Sweet Briar, Va. - The Meredith softball team picked up a non-conference sweep of Sweet Briar Sunday afternoon taking game one 2-0 and game two 7-1.
Meredith (19-13) saw senior Fallon Wimberly pick up the complete game shutout victory in the circle picking up six strikeouts. Offense came at a premium in game one for both teams as the Angels didn't score until the sixth inning.
Sophomore Victoria Negron led the sixth inning off with a single followed by a junior Sarah Manis single later in the inning. Both would come into score off a two-RBI single from graduate student Alyssa Drake.
Sweet Briar (9-21) lone run on the day came in game two. Meredith jumped out to a 6-0 lead through three innings to set the tone. Senior Hannah Weigle and freshman Lillie Davis only gave up five hits while Weigle picked up four strikeouts.
The Meredith offense came alive in game two picking up 11 total hits. Drake led the attack with three hits and two RBIs while Manis, junior Laura Tobin, and freshman Avery Puryear all tallied two hits and an RBI.
Wimberly added a hit an RBI while sophomore Rheanne Burden drove in two runs with one hit.
The Angels are 11-3 in their last 14 and travel to Greensboro College for a USA South clash Wednesday, April 19th with game one starting at 2 p.m.
