GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Meredith softball program split a USA South doubleheader with Greensboro College Wednesday night in dramatic fashion. The Angels dropped game one in extra innings 12-11 before taking game two 8-7. 

In game one, Meredith (20-14, 10-4 USA South) trailed 3-1 heading to the top of the fourth inning before taking the lead and scoring seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings combined. The Angels added three more runs in the seventh to take an 11-4 advantage. 

Greensboro (26-6, 10-2 USA South) scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the game to extra innings. Neither team scored in the eighth before the Pride edged a run in the ninth to take the game-one victory. 

The teams combined for 38 hits and left 24 runners on base. 

Juniors Sarah Manis and Mia Staggs both had three hits and an RBI while freshman Avery Puryear also tallied three hits. Graduate student Alyssa Drake had a game-high four RBIs with two hits.

Game two was just as nerve-racking as it contained four lead changes and two ties throughout. It was a 6-6 game headed to the seventh inning before the Angels scored two which proved to be enough to earn the split. 

Drake and Puryear tallied two hits each while Drake also had two more RBIs. Junior Savannah Talley also had two hits with one of those coming in the seventh proving to be pivotal in the victory.

Meredith has moved its weekend match-up with Mary Baldwin up to Friday the 21st with game one beginning at 2:30 p.m.
