Softball drops game one in USA South Tournament against William Peace

Misenheimer, N.C. - The Meredith softball program started the USA South Tournament against cross-town rival William Peace University, which they swept in the regular season. The Pacers got the best of the Angels 3-1 this time around Thursday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field. 

The No. 4 seeded Angels scored first in the bottom of the first after freshman Avery Puryear singled which would score senior Alyssa Drake on a throwing error. Drake reached on an error in the at-bat before. 

The No. 5 seeded Pacers were held scoreless through three innings before scoring three in the fourth which proved to be the difference. 

Junior Savannah Talley and sophomore Jessie Woller picked up the other two hits for Meredith. Freshman Lillie Davis, who just won USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Year, earned three strikeouts in her complete game outing. 

The Angels will battle Southern Virginia University in the double-elimination tournament tomorrow at noon back at host Pfeiffer University.
