Four minutes into the game, Meredith's Rylie Wade got things started by putting up the first points with a smooth shot. The Avenging Angels carried momentum into halftime, holding a 25-21 lead.
Meredith extended their lead to nine points early in the third quarter, but the Bruins gradually chipped away at the deficit. In the final minute of the third, the Bruins scored a critical layup to edge back into the lead. By the end of the quarter, the Bruins were up by two, 37-35.
Despite a strong showing throughout the game, the Avenging Angels struggled to find the basket in the fourth quarter, unable to add to their score as the Bruins pushed forward for the 50-35 victory.
Paris Bethea and Danae Hawkins led the offense for Meredith, while Kyle Wade anchored the defense with an impressive 15 rebounds and 3 blocks.
The Avenging Angels hit the road again this weekend for the TowneBank Tipoff Tournament at Virginia Wesleyan University. They'll face off against the host team on Saturday at 5 p.m. and return Sunday for a 1 p.m. matchup with the University of Mary Washington.
