Box Score 2 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Meredith College volleyball team traveled to Winston-Salem on Saturday, October 18, for a USA South Conference tri-match hosted by Salem College. The Avenging Angels opened the day with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Mary Baldwin University before falling to host Salem College in straight sets.
In the first match, Meredith controlled the pace from start to finish, defeating the Fighting Squirrels with set scores of 25-12, 25-11, and 25-14. The Avenging Angels hit an impressive .269Â as a team while holding Mary Baldwin to a -.066Â hitting percentage.
The Meredith offense was well-balanced, led by Reagan Kresho with seven kills, followed by Daven Brabble and Caitlyn Russell, who each tallied five. Setters Lillie Davis and Callie Branch guided a smooth offensive rhythm throughout the match, while libero Megan Murray anchored the backcourt with 16 digs.
In their second match of the day, the Avenging Angels faced the USA South's No. 2 seed, the Salem Spirits. After sweeping Salem in their previous meeting, Meredith was unable to repeat the result, falling 0-3 with set scores of 17-25, 18-25, and 13-25. Salem's offense proved strong, hitting .270 compared to Meredith's .063.
Despite offensive struggles, the Avenging Angels' defense battled throughout the contest. Megan Murray once again led the defensive effort with over 20 digs, marking another standout performance in the libero role.
Meredith finishes the day 1-1, moving to 14-8 overall and 8-4 in USA South conference play, finishing the weekend as the No. 4 seed in conference standings. The Avenging Angels will return to action on Wednesday, October 22, when they travel to Pfeiffer University for another key USA South Conference matchup.
