HIGH POINT, N.C. April 6, 2025 | Meredith College's track and field put up strong performances at the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University. The Avenging Angels set new school records and personal bests across multiple events during the two days of competition.
Abigail Clayton,
Abrianna Casarez, and
Athena Mowatt all had standout performances.
QUOTING HEAD COACH FIELD MILLER:
"The group continues to grind through the season with personal best after personal best. This group truly works hard every day and it is showing on the stopwatch and measuring tape. One more weekend to prime before the conference championships so we are focusing on continuing our grind and enjoying the little victories."
200 Meter:
Abigail Clayton led the way in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 60th place with a time of 26.09, setting a new school record. Right behind her,
Abrianna Casarez ran a personal best of 26.70, placing 82nd overall. Both sprinters demonstrated strong performances in this competitive event.
400 Meter:
Clayton's success continued in the 400m, where she finished in 29th place with another school record time of 59.55. Casarez also excelled in this event, clocking a personal best of 1:02.07 to place 46th. Freshman
Madelyn Morton rounded out the field for Meredith, finishing 64th with a personal best time of 1:05.86.
1500 Meter:
In the 1500m,
Ashleigh Modlin posted a personal best of 5:54.41, securing 73rd place.
4x100 Meter Relay:
The Meredith College relay team—composed of
Abigail Clayton,
Natasha Elder,
Madelyn Morton, and
Abrianna Casarez—finished in 21st place with a time of 51.94 in the 4x100 meter relay.
Shot Put:
In the field events,
Athena Mowatt made a mark in the shot put, finishing 27th with a throw of 11.09 meters. This performance not only earned her a top 30 finish but also set a new program record in the event, besting her own previous mark of 11.00m.
Javelin Throw:
Mowatt also competed in the javelin throw, recording a personal best of 28.28 meters to place 28th.
