Concord, NC - The Meredith College Avenging Angels closed out the 2026 USA South Outdoor Track & Field Championships with an impressive all-around performance, highlighted by two conference champions, multiple podium finishes, and scoring efforts across nearly every event group. Meredith finished 3
rd in the final team standings while the overall team title was won by Southern Virginia University.
Leading the way for Meredith was junior distance standout
Delaney Bundy, who captured the conference title in the 10,000 meters with a dominant run of 36:48.60, earning 10 team points. Bundy doubled back later in the meet to claim runner-up honors in the 5,000 meters, finishing in 18:01.17 and adding another eight points to the team total.
Freshman
Juana Silva Jimenez also made a major impact in the distance events, placing third in the 10,000 meters (40:05.22) and fifth in the 5,000 meters (19:26.62). Freshman
Abigail Davis contributed valuable points as well, finishing fourth in the 10,000 meters, while senior
Laura Brown added a point in the 10K with her 8
th place finish.
On the track, the hurdles and sprint groups produced key scoring performances. Sophomore
Halona Bryant led a strong showing in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing third in 16.85. Teammates
Lydia Smith (5th),
Ellie-Reed Zimmerman (6th), and Arianna Vangelder (8th) all scored, showcasing impressive depth for the Avenging Angels.
In the 400-meter hurdles, junior
Abrianna Casarez earned a runner-up finish with a School Record time of 1:08.80, while Bryant added a fourth-place finish and Smith contributed points with a seventh-place effort. Casarez's performance highlighted a strong championship meet as she also competed in the 400 meters and the 4x400 relay.
Sophomore
Abigail Clayton turned in a standout meet in the sprints, qualifying for finals in both the 200 and 400 meters. She placed fifth in the 400 meters (59.63) and sixth in the 200 meters (26.58), while setting the program record in the 200 meters during the preliminary round with a time of 25.69. Clayton capped her weekend by anchoring the 4x400 relay team to a third-place finish (4:07.17), alongside
Natasha Elder,
Emma Jolliff, and Casarez.
The 4x100 relay team of Smith, Zimmerman, Elder, and Bryant added another scoring performance, finishing fourth overall.
In the middle-distance events, freshman
Emma Jolliff led the way in the 800 meters with a seventh-place finish, while
Kaia Ramsey paced Meredith in the 1500 meters with a seventh-place finish as well. The distance crew continued to show depth with multiple athletes competing across the 800m, 1500m, and steeplechase, including a seventh-place finish from
Elisabeth Modlin in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
The throws squad delivered one of the most dominant performances of the meet for Meredith. Sophomore
Bryanna Herring captured the conference title in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.29 meters, adding 10 points. Freshman
Jamie Cornatzer finished second in the same event (40.72m), giving Meredith a 1-2 finish.
Herring also placed seventh in the shot put, while
Athena Mowatt scored in both the shot put (8th) and discus (8th), and added a third-place finish in the javelin (26.23m). Freshman
Finley Sparks contributed across multiple events, including a fifth-place finish in the discus and sixth in the javelin. Additional points came from Cornatzer in the discus (7th) and a strong group effort across the throwing events.

Field Miller on the day: "It was a hot weekend but this group came to compete. That was our theme this weekend and the 16 personal records, 4 program records, and 12 athletes earning USA South All-Conference was a testament of their hard work. I am extremely proud of this group!"
