Winston-Salem, NC - The Avenging Angels Track & Field delivered one of their strongest championship performances in program history this weekend at the USA South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, finishing third overall in the team standings behind Southern Virginia University. Meredith athletes combined for an impressive 14 All-Conference honors and captured two individual conference titles while setting multiple records throughout the meet.
Leading the charge was junior standout Delaney Bundy, who produced a historic performance in the 5000 meters. Bundy won the conference title in a new conference meet record and indoor school record time of 17:33.63, highlighting a dominant distance effort for the Avenging Angels. Freshman Juana Silva Jimenez joined her on the podium with a strong third-place finish in 18:09.67, giving Meredith two All-Conference performances in the event. Bundy continued her standout championship weekend by returning to the track to place second in the 3000 meters, crossing the line in 10:12.75.
Bryanna Herring added another championship moment for Meredith in the field events, winning the Weight Throw with a record-breaking mark of 16.73 meters, setting both a new conference record and a new Meredith indoor school record. Teammate Jamie Cornazter also contributed valuable points in the event, finishing fourth with a throw of 12.71 meters.
The Avenging Angels also shined in the relays. The 4x400 meter relay team of Natasha Elder, Carly O'Toole, Abrianna Casarez, and Abigail Clayton surged to a runner-up finish while setting a new school record with a time of 4:08.32. In another key relay performance, the Distance Medley Relay quartet of Laura Brown, Emma Jolliff, Kaia Ramsey, and Carly O'Toole placed third in 13:43.74.
Individually on the track, sophomore Abigail Clayton delivered one of the top sprint performances for the Angels, finishing third in the 400 meters and setting a new indoor school record of 58.70 seconds. Freshman Jane Gray Zechini also earned All-Conference honors with a third-place finish in the Pole Vault, clearing 2.77 meters.
Another record-setting moment came during the preliminary rounds of the 60-meter hurdles, where Halona Bryant set a new Meredith school record with a time of 10.38 seconds, showcasing the program's continued growth in the sprint hurdles.
Several Avenging Angels contributed key points across the meet with scoring finishes:
· Abrianna Casarez – 6th place, 400 meters (1:01.25) and 6th place, 60-meter hurdles (10.46)
· Carly O'Toole – 5th place, 800 meters (2:30.15) and 6th place, Mile (5:34.67)
· Delaney Bundy – 5th place, Mile (5:28.05)
· Juana Silva Jimenez – 5th place, 3000 meters (10:48.42)
· Abigail Davis – 4th place, 5000 meters (19:23.78)
· Avery McMillan – 5th place, 60-meter hurdles (10.42)
Coach Field Miller on the day, "The group's focused approach today was unapparelled. It was a fun environment to watch each individual chase their goals and accomplish them. Today was one of those moments that validates why we do what we do. I am extremely proud of this group."
Track & Field will now turn to the outdoor season next week at UNC-Wilmington for the UNCW Seahawk Invitational.
