Track & Field Competes Strong at VertKlasse Meeting

High Point, NC - The VertKlasse Meeting provided another strong showing for the Meredith College track & field program, as the Avenging Angels delivered competitive performances across sprints, distance, hurdles, and field events against a deep field of regional competition.

On the track, sophomore Abigail Clayton led the way for Meredith's sprint group with an impressive double school record breaking performance. Clayton stopped the clock in 58.34 seconds in the 400 meters to place 10th overall, returning to the track in the 200 meters 25.91 finishing in the 200 meters. Freshman Angel Southerland paced the Angels in the 100 meters with a 13.52 effort, while also contributing in the 200 meters (27.72). Senior Natasha Elder added depth in both the 200 (28.01) and 400 meters (1:03.60).In the hurdles, sophomore Halona Bryant continued her consistent season, breaking her own school record in a 16.63 performance in the 100-meter hurdles and a 1:11.89 finish in the 400-meter hurdles.

The distance group was led by junior Delaney Bundy. Bundy placed an impressive 2nd overall in the 5000 meters with a time of 17:48.77, continuing her standout season. Freshman Juana Silva Jimenez also had a strong showing in the event, finishing 20th in 19:01.16. Bundy doubled back in the 800 meters (2:30.00), just ahead of Silva Jimenez (2:31.68), while a large Meredith contingent added depth in the event including Kaia Ramsey (2:37.23), Caitlin Brown (2:47.28), Ashleigh Modlin (2:47.78), and Laura Brown (2:50.29). In the 1500 meters, Carly O'Toole led the Angels with a 5:13.32 performance, followed by Ramsey (5:28.65) and Elisabeth Modlin (6:06.74).

In the field events, sophomore Bryanna Herring turned in a top-10 finish in the hammer throw, placing 7th overall with a mark of 45.61 meters. Junior Athena Mowatt led Meredith in the throws, recording marks of 10.86 meters in the shot put and 27.45 meters in the javelin.

The Avenging Angels are back on the track at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic, Friday and Saturday April 10-11 hosted by the University of Lynchburg.
