Ferrum, Va. – The Meredith basketball team was placed as
the 7th seed and traveled to the 2nd seed Ferrum on Tuesday for the
quarterfinals of the USA South Women's Basketball Tournament.
The host Panthers won the game 92-85. The teams had split their
regular season series.
The Avenging Angels played a tight game with the Panthers and had
several eight point leads in the first half. Meredith held the
53-49 halftime lead and had four players with double-digit scoring
for the half.
The game continued to be tight in the second half with Meredith
(7-17) overcoming an eight point deficit and taking an 82-81 lead
with five minutes remaining. The Panthers (20-6) would later take
the 84-83 lead and not relinquish it and make key free throws down
the stretch to take the win. Meredith out rebounded Ferrum
44-34.
Meredith was led in scoring by Megan Rahn with a career high 32
points. Two Avenging Angel players had double-doubles including
senior Brittany Cornelius with a triple-double of 20 points, 11
rebounds and 10 assists. Kristin Stewart had 14 rebounds and 12
points. Bryana Holmes finished off the double digit scoring with 11
points.
Meredith completes their season with the valiant effort in the
conference tournament.
