Panthers Hand Meredith First Conference Loss

FERRUM, Va. - The Ferrum College Panthers handled Meredith easily with an 87-46 decision in today's USA South Conference pairing. Ferrum (6-0, 2-0 USA South) remained undefeated with the win while the Avenging Angels dropped to 1-3 overall with their first league game of the season.

Meredith's Keyanka Bailey scored 7-of-15 points during the first 10 minutes of play to keep her team within eight. But the Panthers turned up the heat and pulled away to enter the locker room up 40-19 at the half.

Ferrum's Jacole Hairston led her team with 19 points and was one of three in double-digits for the Panthers. The team hit 45.8% from field goal range compared to just 22.5% for Meredith. In addition, the hosts turned in an impressive 15-of-19 points from the stripe to runaway with the win.

Senior Bryana Holmes returned to the Avenging Angels' lineup for the first time this season and dropped in 11, including a perfect four-for-four from the line. Rah'nika Jones added six points and 11 boards, and Danielle Lee posted a game-high 13 rebounds in the loss.

Meredith hosts Salem College Monday, December 10, for a 7 p.m. tipoff in Weatherspoon Gymnasium before returning to USA South action at Maryville (Tenn.) on the 15th.
