Box Score

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith Avenging Angels ended a three-game winning streak this afternoon with a 64-54  loss at home to Averett University. Meredith gave up a two-point halftime lead in the opening minutes of the second stanza and would struggle to fend off the Cougars the rest of the way.

The Avenging Angels dropped their third conference game of the season with the loss and fall to 4-6 overall, while AU improved to 3-8 on the season and 2-2 in the USA South.

Meredith took the lead early in the game thanks to an opening three from senior Bryana Holmes and a pair of field goals from Keyanka Bailey. But Averett's Mette Sheiman launched a pair of threes during a 13-3 run to take a seven-point lead at 9:23.

In the final three minutes of the half, Bailey led her team on an 11-2 run to give Meredith the advantage at the break.

The Avenging Angels went cold in the second half shooting just 30.8% compared to 48.3% from the Cougars, and AU pulled ahead by as many as 13 to capture the win.

Bailey posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. McKenzi Edwards added 15 points, eight boards and six assists, and Holmes topped off the Avenging Angel leaders with a dozen, all from three-point range.

Sheiman led all with 19 points, adding a team-high nine rebounds. Shannon Smith posted 13 points in the win.
