Box Score 2 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Meredith College outside hitter Karlie Long earned an All-Tournament selection in the Captains Classic as the Avenging Angels repeated Friday's results with a split in Saturday's action. Long posted the third-best totals on the weekend with 47 kills and 3.63 kills-per-set.
Meredith lost in straight sets to Washington and Lee (25-13, 25-14, 25-16) Saturday and followed with a 3-1 win over Southern Virginia (19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-19).
The Generals topped the Angels offensively in each of three sets, including a .571 hitting percentage in the second compared to just 9-of-30 from Meredith.
Long posted the only double-digit kills total with 10, and Hannah Blaylock tallied 14 assists. Keegan Lynch posted a match-high 14 digs with six assists in the loss.
The Avenging Angels regrouped to finish off the Knights in four sets. Long posted 10 kills with two aces and seven digs. Lynch finished with 19 digs, and Emery McGee gathered 11 digs in the win.
After the holiday weekend, Meredith travels to St. Andrew's Wednesday before returning to Raleigh for the first home match Friday, Sept. 5, versus the Salem Spirits.
