Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In the first USA South Conference match of the season, the Meredith College soccer squad put away the Huntingdon Hawks 4-2. Danielle Lee led the Angels with a first-half goal followed by an assist in the 78th minute to help Meredith secure the road win.
Meredith found the net on just three occasions in 18 attempts in the first period. Rookie Olivia DeBellis set the tone with her first career goal in the second minute of play.
Ashton Allen gathered a pass from Christa Jackson nearly 27 minutes later to give the Avenging Angels a 2-0 lead, and Lee followed in the next offensive set to send Meredith into the break with a three-point advantage over the hosts. Rachel Didier assisted Lee on the play.
Huntingdon managed to find the box twice during the second period on unassisted goals from Clara Tapplin and Carlie Reed, but Lee helped Meredith McCarty to a final score to put away the Panthers for good.
Rookie goalie Jaisa Loch allowed no goals in her combined 61:42 minutes played for the win. Brook Verburg entered the match at the beginning of the second stanza and left the match with two goals against and one save.
Huntingdon's Brittany Houseman took the loss for the Hawks.
