Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith College Avenging Angels moved to 3-0 in the USA South today with a 5-0 win over the visiting Huntingdon Hawks. Meredith McCarty netted two goals in the second half to lead the Angels as the Hawks offense never got off the ground.
The first half began with Meredith's midfield controlling the pace of play. Olivia DeBellis and Ellice Johnson pushed the ball upfield as the Hawks struggled to get the ball to their forwards. Jessica Wallace led MC in shots with 10 as she continued the torrid pace that she has played with all season.
Celena Greer had a great opportunity towards the end of the half as she was on the receiving end of a Samantha Litt cross that ended up being saved by Hawk's goalie Leah Leach.
McCarty hit the ground running in the second half as she quickly scored the first goal of the game just seconds into the period and added another nearly eight minutes later. Her second goal came on a long cross from the right side of the box that curved into the top left corner of the goal.
Wallace's persistence paid off as she scored her seventh goal of the season unassisted in the 62nd minute. DeBellis capped off the offensive effort as she scored in the 80th minute with an assist from Greer.
Kirstie King, Megan Luke, and Kaitlyn Peeples put together a solid defensive line to help shutout the Hawks. MC outshot Huntingdon 32-4 and had 10 corners to the Hawks 1 on the afternoon.
Jaisa Loch tallied two saves in goal as she recorded her fifth win of the season. Kat Pike also spent 16 minutes in goal for the Angels. Leach recorded 15 saves in a losing effort for the Hawks.
