FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Meredith soccer's Delaney Thompson has been named the USA South Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

The freshman from Hope Mills, North Carolina earns the award after another stellar week in goal for the Avenging Angels. She began the week with a shutout in a 3-0 home win over crosstown rival William Peace where she made three saves.

Then, on Saturday night against Southern Virginia, Thompson recorded 11 saves and allowed just a pair of goals.

With her 14 saves during the week, Thompson increased her conference-leading saves number to 91, 20 clear of second place in the league.

This marks the second Avenging Angel to be named USA South Rookie of the Week this season, as Thompson joins Sam Carroll.

Up next, Meredith will step out of conference and take on Warren Wilson on the road this Thursday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m.
