Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- Jessica Wallace and Meghan Ingram paired up for a goal in the fourth minute of overtime to lead Meredith College soccer in a 1-0 victory over the visiting Ferrum Panthers. The win marked the sixth consecutive for Meredith and moved the Avenging Angels into first in USA South East Division standings with one match remaining in the regular season.
Ferrum entered today's contest with a slight lead over Meredith in league rankings and a win during the teams' first pairing in early October.
But the tenacious defensive line led by Kirstie King and Molly Thomas kept the visitors at bay. The Panthers recorded just two shots on the day compared to 21 from the Avenging Angels and four from Wallace.
Ellice Johnson had a near miss during the 85th minute that hit the goal post. Ferrum's keeper Taylor Dodson stopped attempts from King and Thomas to close out regulation sending the match into overtime.
In the 94th minute Ingram crossed a pass to Wallace from the right sideline, and Wallace drove the ball into the far corner beyond the goalie's reach for the sudden victory.
Jaisa Loch, who earned her 10th season win and 6th shutout today, tallied one save in her complete game played. Dodson recorded the loss for Ferrum with seven stops in goal.
Meredith returns to their home turf Sunday for the final regular season match of the season versus Mary Baldwin University. Head Coach Paul Smith and his staff will honor five seniors just prior to the match, which is set to kickoff at 1 p.m.
Final conference standings and tournament seedings will be determined Sunday evening once all league matches complete. Link HERE for the USA South Women's Soccer Tournament site for details.
