Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- Kate Perko led the Meredith College basketball Angels with a game-high 27 points, 16 rebounds in Friday night's 86-70 win over the visiting Greensboro College Pride. The win marks the first conference opening victory for Meredith since 2009.
The first competition for any Avenging Angels team this academic year, the seven Meredith basketball athletes on the court tonight were ready to play. Jumping out to a first quarter lead of 28-18 with 21 points from the dynamic pair of Kimberly Schuh and Perko, the Avenging Angels held off a second period GC comeback to hold onto the lead at the break.
Perko scored 11 in the third to spread the gap back to double-digits, and the Pride would remain at a distance the rest of the way.
The team shot 55.2 percent on the night and outrebounded Greensboro 47-31 to control the boards. Nine three pointers gave the Pride their only hope, including five from Karli Mason.
Schuh finished with 22 points, 14 boards, and four assists, and rookie Piper Carriere led all with 10 assists, adding 11 points. Caroline Coleman notched 13 points, and De'ja Morgan scored four with a pair of assists and one steal. Mikayla Farris tallied nine points, four boards in her collegiate debut.
Following the USA South's abbreviated schedule this year, Meredith will play Greensboro again Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., this time traveling to Hanes Gym. Follow the live broadcast HERE.
