Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College volleyball notched a quick 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-18) sweep over the visiting Pfeiffer Falcons in USA South action Wednesday evening. Ally Copenhaver led the match with 11 kills, five service aces.
Meredith eased to an 8-2 advantage in the opening game before the Falcons pushed back scoring five of the next six. Kills at the hand of Copenhaver, Hailey Long, and Avery Bowman, all from Bailey Lucas, ended the Pfeiffer run with MCVB back up by six. The Angels held onto the momentum and finished off the first frame with Copenhaver at the service line for five consecutive points. A pair of service aces to a confused back line, followed up with winners from Copenhaven and Bowman set the sweep in motion.
The Angels maintained command of the court in the second game with an early 11-3 advantage. A series of missteps provided redemption for the Falcons, who pulled back to within three. The serve passed back and forth between the teams through the rest of the game, leaving MCVB with an eight-point lead.
Lucas helped Meredith to a 4-0 advantage in the third stanza with help from Copenhaver and Whitney Bolton. And Copenhaver followed a mishandled set with a pair of points, settling the Angels back in at 6-1.
But the Falcons chipped away at Meredith's lead and tied the game 16-16. Meredith finally stepped up when Lauren Bissette put one down in the middle to launch a 6-0 rally forcing a Pfeiffer timeout. Lauren Phillips returned with a service winner at 23-16. Bolton and Copenhaver finished out the game at the net.
Bolton, Bowman, and Long tallied eight kills apiece, and Lucas dished out 26 assists with four digs. Phillips led all with nine digs, adding four assists, and Bolton stopped five at the net.
Meredith travels to rival William Peace Friday night for a two-match series beginning at 5 p.m. Follow the live action HERE.
