Perko sets career-high as Angels outlast William Peace

Raleigh, N.C. - Senior forward Kate Perko picked up a career-high 24 rebounds and scored back-to-back buckets to lift Meredith over William Peace 54-50 on Friday night inside the Hermann Athletic Center. 

Perko finished the game with 25 points and 24 rebounds to lead Meredith (3-12, 3-5 USA South). Sophomore guard Emma Lodge added eight points and junior guard Piper Carriere added six. 

Meredith fell down early 15-10 by the end of the first quarter and trailed 27-22 at halftime. In the second half, Perko and sharp shooting from Hodge from the 3-point line helped lead the charge, as the Angels battled back and forth with William Peace (2-10, 1-5 USA South), who were led by freshman guard Aisha Hull and senior guard Pamela Mock, who each finisehd with 17 points. 

In the end, however, it was Perko who secured the victory for Meredith, as she picked up a key layup with one minute remaining to take a 52-50 lead. She followed that up with a put back after a missed layup from Hodge with 14 seconds left to secure the win. 

Up next, the Angels travel to Pfeiffer University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15.
