ROME, Ga.— Four days after setting a new program record in the 5k, Meredith's Delaney Bundy was honored as USA South Conference Cross Country Runner of the week. The announcement came on Monday, September 15th, in a formal announcement from the league office.Â
On Friday, September 12th, Bundy not only claimed the individual title at the Pfeiffer Cross Country Invitational, but she established a new program record (18:31.0) along the way. Coincidentally, Bundy became the second Avenging Angel in as many weeks, Addison Doran the other, to claim the No. 1 spot among individual runners at an event. Doran accomplished the feat at the Downback Invitational, hosted by Methodist University, on September 5th.Â
Bundy's time of 18:31.0 was 57 seconds faster than Anna Conrad (Winthrop), who was second at the Pfeiffer meet. Bundy was one of three Avenging Angel runners to finish inside the Top-10, including Carly O'Toole (9th / 20:21.2) and Juana Silva Jimenez (10th / 20:27.9).
"Delaney had a solid performance at Pfeiffer, it is not the course to run fast on so the fact that she ran the time she did and primarily by herself was a big boost to morale," said head coach Field Miller. I am looking forward to seeing what she can accomplish this season."
A total of 15 runners competed the course at the Pfeiffer Cross Country Invitational for Meredith.Â
