Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Meredith College soccer team fell 5-0 Sunday afternoon to the University of Mary Washington Eagles in the first of a four-game road series. UMW outpaced the Angels with 21 shots to just one in the shutout.
Eighteen Avenging Angels entered the match Sunday but no one had an answer for Mary Washington's attack. Rookie goalie Miranda Lutz put up a strong performance with seven stops, but freshman Eagle Lindsey Hendrickson found her way to the net on three occasions in the second half to drive home the win.
Lizzie Brooks scored the first and game winning goal in the 32nd minute of the match off a pass from Brooke Bauman. Bauman served up one more assist early in the second half to Corinne Carson in the first of four UMW scores in the frame.
Summer Clifford recorded the lone shot for Meredith in the final two minutes of the match, but the attempt flew wide.
The Avenging Angels head to Buena Vista, Virginia, Tuesday for the final non-conference pairing on the schedule. First kick versus Southern Virginia is slated for 5 p.m. with live action available HERE.
