Davis Leads Surging Angels into Second Half of Conference Play

RALEIGH, N.C. – As the Meredith College softball team turns the page into the second half of USA South Conference play, the Avenging Angels are doing so with confidence, momentum, and a clear identity. Sitting at 7-1 in conference action and 14-10 overall, Meredith is tied for first place with Pfeiffer University and firmly in position to contend down the stretch with five conference doubleheaders still to play.

At the center of that success is senior pitcher Lillie Davis, whose steady presence and dominant performances in the circle have helped define Meredith's season. Davis has emerged not only as one of the top pitchers in the USA South, but as one of the most impactful players in NCAA Division III softball this spring. As of April 2, she ranks No. 2 nationally in victories, No. 4 in shutouts, and No. 7 in strikeouts—numbers that reflect both her consistency and her ability to control games at the highest level.

Her recent performances have only reinforced that impact. Last week, Davis went 3-1 with two shutouts, allowing just three total runs across 26 innings of work. She currently leads the USA South in overall pitching statistics, including the lowest ERA in the conference, giving Meredith a reliable edge every time she steps into the circle.

While Davis has anchored the Angels defensively, Meredith's offense has provided a powerful complement. Junior Ashbee Standridge has been a driving force at the plate, hitting .415 on the season while leading the conference with eight home runs and an impressive .846 slugging percentage in league play. Senior Emilee Lewis has been equally consistent, batting .406 and ranking fourth in the conference in stolen bases with 13 on 15 attempts, creating constant pressure on opposing defenses.

Together, the balance between dominant pitching and timely, explosive offense has fueled Meredith's strong start—including a signature win over No. 12 Randolph-Macon, a nationally ranked program that showcased the Angels' ability to compete with top-tier opponents.

With the "second half" of conference play now underway, Meredith is positioned to build on its success. Behind the leadership of Davis and a lineup that continues to produce, the Avenging Angels are not just off to a strong start—they are a team gaining momentum at the right time, ready to make a push as the postseason approaches.
